Skin is not just a word in language, but a language in its own. It is used endlessly as a means to define, to construct, and to separate. This major project focuses on how the western cosmetic industry uses language to discuss attitudes towards colour, skin tone and race–by linguistically breaking down their colour palette naming systems. Words are then reorganized by the skin tone they describe–light, medium, and dark–to become narratives of their own.
